Chonma-ho ‘’Kim Toy’’

ในช่วงยุค 60-70s ความล้าสมัยของเหล่าทหารม้าของกองทัพประชาชนเกาหลีนั้นดูเหมือนว่าจะเริ่มเผยให้เห็นเด่นชัดมากขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ โครงการพัฒนารถถังหลักเป็นของตัวเองจึงได้เริ่มขึ้นโดยสำนักงานการพัฒนาอาวุธที่ 2 โดยใช้รถถังหลัก T-62 ของโซเวียตที่สั่งมากว่า 500 คันเป็นแม่แบบ
มาดูสเปคของรถถัง T-62 ปกติกันก่อน รถถังหลักรุ่นนี้พัฒนาขึ้นจาก T-54/55 โดยแค่ทำการเพิ่มใหญ่รถถัง เป็นขนาด 115 มม. ลำกล้องเรียบ เหมือนจะหนาและยิงหนักขึ้น แต่ T-62 กลับใช้เครื่องยนต์เดิมเหมือนกับใน T-54/55 ซึ่งนั่นหมายถึงความคล่องตัวที่ลดลงนั่นเอง เรายังไม่ทราบข้อมูลของ “ชนมะโฮ” [แปลเป็นไทยคือ “เปกาซัสเสือ”] มากนักแม้แต่ปีที่ผลิตจริงก็ไม่ทราบ กว่าจะรู้การมีตัวตนอยู่ของรถถังรุ่นนี้ก็ตอนที่มันร่วมสวนสนามฉลองครบรอบ 60 ปีของพรรคแรงงานเกาหลีในเปียงยาง

อุตสาหกรรมอาวุธของเกาหลีเหนือนั้นถูกพัฒนาขึ้นตามหลักนิยม “ยานเกราะ,ปืนใหญ่และมิสไซล์” โดยยุทธสาสตร์แล้ว ชนมะโฮ จะถูกใช้เป็นหัวหอกในการบุกข้ามเส้นขนานที่ 38 เข้าเกาหลีใต้ถ้าจำเป็น (ถ้าผ่านสนามทุ่นระเบิดนับล้าน ๆ ลูกมาได้นะ) ชนมะโฮ I นั้นเริ่มต้นจากการก็อปปี้ T-62 ล้วน ๆ มาก่อนโดยน้ำหนักเบากว่า และเริ่มพัฒนาเป็นรุ่น II โดยการติด laser rangefinder บนเกราะปืน
รุ่น III นั้น มีการติดตั้ง Night vision, ปลอกกระจายความร้อน (เพื่อแก้ไขอาการคลาดเคลื่อนของปืนเนื่องจากความร้อนที่แพร่ออกจากลำกล้อง) รุ่น IV อัพเกรดด้วยเกราะ ERA รุ่น Kontakt-3 ของรัสเซียและเพิ่มความหนาของเกราะขึ้นทั่วคัน แต่จากที่ดูวีดีโอโปรโมตแล้วความคล่องตัวแทบไม่ลดลงไปเลย เครื่องยนต์ทราบเพียงว่าเป็นขนาด 750 แรงม้าจากสโลวาเกีย นอกจากนี้ยังมีเครื่องยิงลูกระเบิดเพิ่มอีกที่ด้านข้างรวม 8 กระบอก (ดีกว่าของเดิมจากรัสเซียอีก)
มีรายงานว่ากองทัพเกาหลีเหนือ “น่าจะได้” รับรถถัง Gen สงครามเย็นปลาย ๆ อย่าง T-72 และ T-80 บางส่วนเข้าประจำการและใช้มันในการต่อยอด ชนมะโฮ เพิ่มเติมกลายเป็นรถรุ่น V ที่มีการติดตั้งระบบควบคุมการยิง,thermal imagers และเปลี่ยนปืนเป็น 125 มม. แบบรถถังยุคใหม่ ยังมีข้อสงสัยกันว่าเกาหลีเหนือนั้นไม่สามารถที่จะผลิตรถรุ่น IV และ V ได้อย่างชิว ๆ แน่ อุปกรณ์ส่วนใหญ่ก็ดูเหมือนจะต้องนำเข้าจากต่างประเทศแถมการผลาญตังค์ไปกับโครงการนิวเคลียร์ในปี 2006 ก็ทำให้ต้องลดการผลิตรถถังลง
รถถัง ชนมะโฮ นั้นถูกบรรจุให้กับกองพลยานเกราะที่ 105 ซึ่งเป็นหน่วย elite ของทางเกาหลีเหนือด้วยตระกูลคิมหวังว่ารถถังของพวกเขาจะสูสีกับรถตระกูล K1 ของเกาหลีใต้และ M1 Abrams ของสหรัฐ แต่คิมน้อยหารู้ไม่ว่า รถถังของสองชาตินั้นมันไปไกลกว่าที่คิดแล้ว
